PRESS RELEASE: Sonoma County Democratic Party endorses Shirlee Zane for District 3 County Supervisor

Cites commitment to the environment and working families

The Sonoma County Democratic Party joined a long list of progressive organizations supporting Shirlee Zane in her bid for the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors in the 3rd District.

In issuing this endorsement, members of the Sonoma County Democratic Party pointed towards Zane’s track record of community accomplishment, both as the Chief Executive Officer for the Council on Aging and as a tireless advocate for climate change solutions, improved transportation and affordable housing.

“As a CEO for a $3.5 million nonprofit corporation, Shirlee combines the financial savvy needed to navigate the County’s thorny economic issues with the heart to stand up for our working families,” says Stephen Gale, chair of the Sonoma County Democratic Party. “Shirlee is an obvious choice in a race marked by fundamental differences of opinion in how Sonoma County should care for our environment and our community.”

The Sonoma County Democratic Party noted the importance of the 3rd District seat to the fate of key environmental questions that will come before the Board of Supervisors in the years to come, and gave Zane their unwavering vote of confidence in her ability to defend Sonoma County’s greenbelts from development threats and protect scarce water resources. The Sonoma County Democratic Party also welcomed the underlying theme in Zane’s campaign that working families deserve a seat at the table in county government.

"I am proud to be a registered Democrat since the age of 18,” notes Shirlee Zane. “I am a Democrat because it is the party that represents inclusivity, supports working families, embraces minorities and reflects my values of social justice and government that protects those most vulnerable in hard times.”
