
WHEREAS, for more than 60 consecutive years, California has been the number one agricultural state in the nation, producing more than 400 food items and accounting for approximately 50 percent of the nation’s supply of fruits, vegetables, and nuts, California is also the nation’s leader in global exports, and California’s farms and ranches support millions of jobs, drive economic opportunities in rural communities, and position the state as a leader in contributing to a more secure and climate-resilient food system worldwide; and
WHEREAS, sustainable, regenerative, and organic farming practices protect California’s natural resources by improving soil health, enhancing water retention, increasing biodiversity, and reducing dependence on synthetic inputs, ensuring long-term productivity and resilience in the face of worsening climate change impacts; and
WHEREAS, investing in and promoting these farming methods strengthens rural economies, fosters healthy working landscapes, reduces harmful runoff, and preserves the fertility of California’s lands for future generations while positioning the state as a leader in innovative, science-based solutions for a secure and climate-resilient food system, now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Sonoma County Democratic Party supports policies and initiatives that advance sustainable, regenerative, and organic farming and ranching practices, ensuring that California remains a leader in diverse agricultural production; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be sent to county Democratic central committees, relevant agricultural organizations, and elected leaders to encourage broad support for a future of farming and ranching that is sustainable, regenerative, and organic.
