WHEREAS the Republican Party is in control of all three branches of the Federal Government and is determined to reduce the social safety net for people who live from pay check to pay check and those who work for a minimum wage, and who are too old or sick to work full time; and
WHEREAS the Democratic Party strategy to protect the most vulnerable individuals and families in the country was to bring the Republicans to the bargaining table by refusing to support these Republican policies and as a result had seen very positive results from the November 2025 election; and
WHEREAS eight Senators who caucus with the Democrats—Dick Durbin (D-IL), Angus King (I-ME), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), John Fetterman (D-PA), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), and Jacky Rosen (D-NV)—under the leadership of Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) capitulated to this administration with no firm commitment made to extend the tax credits of the Affordable Care Act or to safeguard other programs and failed to uphold our values and platform thus undermining the faith in and credibility of the Democratic Party;
THEREFORE let it be resolved that the Sonoma Country Democratic Party condemns the eight Senators for orchestrating the end of the the government shutdown without securing essential protections for working people, educators, and families who depend on federal programs; and
LET IT FURTHER be resolved that we call on the Democratic National Committee to call for the resignation of Senator Chuck Schumer as Minority Leader and call on the respective state parties to formally censure their involved Senators.
