Vote YES on Measure I for High Quality Education!
Now more than ever, we can’t count on state and federal education funding.
We can’t trust Sacramento or Washington politicians to put Petaluma students first.
Measure I provides stable funding and guarantees local control.
Nationally, California ranks among the lowest in per-student funding for public schools,
and Petaluma City Schools receive far less funding than many school districts in the North Bay.
As a result, we’re losing teachers and school staff to other school districts.
Our schools are also facing cuts to core academic programming, including
Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways for students such as Health Careers,
Engineering and Manufacturing, Agricultural Mechanics, Construction, and Automotive Technology.
Studies show that having a great teacher in the classroom is the most important element of providing quality education.
Voting YES on I will keep great teachers in our local classrooms, staff in our schools, and prevent significant cuts to academic programs.
Key Benefits
- Attract and retain excellent teachers and school staff
- Enhance science, technology, engineering, math, and writing programs
- Maintain smaller class sizes
- Keep school libraries open
- Prepare students for college and careers
Measure I automatically expires in eight years and cannot be renewed without voter approval.
Senior citizens are eligible for an exemption to ensure the cost is not a burden to those on fixed incomes.
To succeed, students must graduate with a strong foundation in science, math, engineering, and technology.
Measure I ensures local students have access to the same outstanding teachers, school staff, and quality academic programs as other students in our region.
Strict Fiscal Accountability and Local Control
- All funds must stay local and cannot be taken away by the State or Federal government.
- An independent citizens’ oversight committee and annual audits ensure funds are spent as promised.
- By law, no funds can be used for administrator salaries.
