Statement regarding US Senate & State Assembly District 2 Candidates

The Sonoma County Democratic Party (SCDP) is a charter of the California Democratic Party (CADEM) and our bylaws state …..The SCDP shall make no endorsement of candidates for state or federal office unless that candidate has been endorsed by California Democratic Party.

None of the three US Senate Democratic candidates reached the required threshold of 60% at the CADEM State Endorsing Convention to receive the endorsement of the state party.

In regards to the race for the State Assembly Seat District 2, the current Assembly Member pulled out of the race less than a week prior to CADEM’s State Endorsing Convention and had previously received the CADEM endorsement during a pre-endorsement vote. CADEM’s bylaws do not provide for a path allowing the current Democratic Candidates now running for State Assembly District 2 to receive the endorsement prior to the Primary. Post primary, if the top two remaining candidates are Democrats, an endorsement will be voted on and provided by the California Democratic Party going into the November general election.
